Decorate from the Trim

How To / August 22,2013

It's easy to get overwhelmed with the task of decorating a home interior, so just remember to start with the small stuff. A tired interior scheme might need some heavy renovation, or it might just need a couple of detail changes to refresh. In either case, a little change done well is better than a big change done poorly. Here are some ideas on where to start with little interior decoration changes.

Have a look at the trim details of a room's interior setting, and pay attention to the shape, colour, and patterning. Window frames and skirting boards are the biggest sections of trim to focus on, and getting them in harmony will reap dividends for the decoration scheme. After taking care of the frame and board trim, think about matching or contrasting accent pieces with the trim scheme. Decoration is an ongoing task, and - like any potentially big project - it's always best to have a plan set out before starting. Keep a lookout when visiting friend's houses, shops, or just taking a stroll, as inspiration can pop up in the most unlikely places.
