Decorating an Ideal Guest Room

How To / August 12,2013

Designing a friendly space for the guest room can provide a reassuring touch for visiting friends and family. Sleeping away from home is a little unsettling, because people get very attached to their bedrooms. Make sure your guests fall asleep and wake up on the right side of the bed with these guest room design tips.

  • Most guests come as invited but some don't, so it's best to keep a guest room that appeals to everybody. Stick to basic furnishings, such as a bed, a desk and some drawers.
  • Place a few interesting objects around the room, for example some magazines, a couple of heirlooms and a map of the local area.
  • Plenty of guests forget to bring toiletries. A toothbrush, soap, and a towel will make any guest feel welcome and cared for.
  • Lighting is everything, and something as simple as a simple desk lamp to something more unconventional like a lantern can make or break a room.
  • If there's no space for a guest room, consider using double purpose furniture. A day bed will sleep a guest and work like a couch while the sun is up, otherwise a sofa bed is a good alternative.
