Man Cave Nirvana

If you don't have a man cave yet, it may be time to put aside a spare room or shed and build that 'manctuary'. At its most basic, a man cave comes with a big-screen TV, comfy seating and a range of alcoholic beverages. It might also have a fireplace, a bear skin rug, entertainment - from a rack of DVDs and games right up to a home theatre system, a pool table, a minibar or even a big timber bar, a spa and weights.

However, it is advised to not just grab all your treasured stuff and pile it in, but to build your cave slowly. Popular colours for man caves tend to be shades of brown, navy and black. Keep lighting low with lamps, and add some animal-hide cushions and a coffee table. Vintage items will set a lived-in atmosphere. Think old globes or clocks and leather sofas. If space permits, a pool table or ping pong table is good, but even a chess table works. No room for a bar? A butler's tray with glasses will do the trick. Don't forget the key ingredient, a sign outside the door that says 'No Children or XX Chromosomes Allowed. This is a man-only zone.'
